Elfin Lakes and the end of summer!

Unlike Australia, there is zero warning signs here of when summer getting close to being over. One day it was warm and sunny, the next I felt like I got hit with an icy baseball bat as I left our apartment building! Top of 12 degrees consistently here at the moment.

Since our last hiking trip up to Golden Ears at the start of September, we haven’t had a clear weekend. Just rain, rain and more rain. Finally, the last weekend of September had some sunny weather forecast! It was also the AFL grand final weekend!

We went and watched the AFL final on Friday night at a local Irish bar. It was completely packed, with a lot of Aussies of course. We felt right at home. Tyral Dalitz (aka The lost Aussie and fellow Oaklands mammal) has also made his way over here to Vancouver and he came along as well. It was a terrible result for GWS, but I enjoyed seeing Toby Greene cry 🙂

JORDAN ALSO HAD A BABY!! LITTLE BABY MORGAN – SEPERATE POST COMING FROM ELLEN.

Saturday morning Ellen and I bounced out of bed (a little bit slower than usual from the beers the night before) and headed up to Squamish to do the Elfin Lakes hike. It was an absolute ripper of a day as we drove out of Vancouver under the massive Cypress mountain range. We took the turnoff at Squamish to the trail head on a little dirt road, after about 5 minutes of driving we came across a police officer directing traffic around a burnt out car. Just before we arrived, the car had broken down and just caught fire! And is now completely written off. Thank god Bertha wasn’t that dramatic for us when she broke down.

We made it to the trail head and got walking/running – it was a super fresh morning. I didn’t anticipate this and only had shorts on and a thin jumper. As we got higher up the trail we started seeing snow! We did not expect this at all. Friday night apparently a massive storm came through and dumped lots of snoowwwwww, the campers we saw said it was a terrible nights sleep. We thought it was great though! It makes the scenery much more pretty.

We hiked for 2 hours to the top. Views getting better and better all the way to the top!

Not sure what I am doing… I was cold.

We sat in the shelter at the top for a little while and had some lunch. I was too cold in my shorts to sit outside! We headed back down and headed back to Vancouver. A nice little weekend hike!
